Greeting Each Other in Thai Language. (Thai: gaan glàao ták taai gan láe gan [การกล่าวทักทายกันและกัน])

How are Thai people saying greeting each other? Today I have picked two words to explore your Thai language learning.

สวัสดี
sawatdi
Hello, Hi, Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening.

Thas word,สวัสดี(sawatdi), is usually to use to say greeting with other for any time. Not classify the time morning, afternoon and evening.

///

ราตรีสวัสดิ์
Ratri sawat
Good night.

For more polite, Thai also has several words which are added at the end of a sentence to indicate the genre of speaker and to show respect to the addressee.

So, simply put the word “ครับ khrap” at the end of any lines if you are a man.

Likewise, in the conversation, if the speakers is a woman, use the particle “ค่ะ Kha” at the end of your sentences instead.

See how to use the particles “ครับ khrap” and “ค่ะ Kha” following:

Speaker is a male.

Michael : สวัสดีครับ (Sawatdi khrap) = Hello, Hi, Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening

Speaker is a female.

Cindy : สวัสดีค่ะ (Sawatdi kha) = Hello, Hi, Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening

///

Speaker is a male.

John : ราตรีสวัสดิ์ครับ (Ratri sawat khrap) = Good night.

Speaker is a female.

Kate : ราตรีสวัสดิ์ค่ะ (Ratri sawat kha) = Good night.

Conclusion:
